Marvel Comics News
The Marvel Universe is about to be changed by the metal clad hand of EMPEROR DOOM! With Doctor Doom taking on the mantle of Sorceror Supreme from Doctor Strange, the power seems to be going to his head (who could have seen that coming!), so keep up with the action as ‘The Rise of Emperor Doom‘ begins in February! It is set to be a 9-issue event series by current ‘Fantastic Four‘ writer Ryan North. This event is set to have huge impacts across the whole Marvel line, with ‘Amazing Spider-Man‘ already showing how this will go with the upcoming story arc ‘The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man‘.
THE WINTER SOLDIER IS THE WOLVERINE! Or is The Wolverine the Winter Soldier? The Wolver-Soldier? The Winter-ine? Idk, all I know is that this design is sick. Coming in January, written by Chris Condon (‘That Texas Blood‘) and illustrated by Alessandro Cappuccio (‘Moon Knight’) it sees a near “feral” Wolverine being muzzled and controlled as a weapon of The Maker’s council!
While the rest of the Star Wars comics line ventures into the post-Return of the Jedi era, March 2025 will see the start of brand new tales delving into the time before The Phantom Menace! ‘Star Wars: Jedi Knights‘ will be an ongoing series from writer Marc Guggenheim (‘Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca‘, ‘Star Wars: Yoda‘) and artist Madibek Musabekov (‘Star Wars‘, ‘X-Men Red‘), where each issue will explore a new adventure with a duo of Jedi Knights.
Years into the future, a powerless Matt Murdock is no longer Daredevil. Doing whatever he can to help those in need in a city broken beyond repair, he’ll finally be able to again when something catastrophic happens causing his powers to miraculously return. Venture into ‘Daredevil: Cold Day In Hell‘, a new original limited series arriving in April from Steve McNiven (‘Civil War‘) and Charles Soule (‘Star Wars‘).
Due to the change in who wears the cape, ‘Strange Academy‘ is now becoming ‘Doom Academy‘! And post ‘Venom War‘ we have a [currently yet to be revealed] ‘All-New Venom‘, so it looks like Eddie Brock will now be symbiotically connected to Carnage!
DC Comics News
DC are returning to support creator owned comics with the revival of their Vertigo imprint label. They also specified that this isn’t them dropping or replacing the Black Label line. Hilariously, the first series under this new Vertigo line is already in the middle of releasing: ‘The Nice House By The Sea‘ by James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez Bueno! The editor behind both Black Label & Vertigo (not to mention Milestone & Sandman Universe!) has said there will plenty of announcements soon, showcasing brand new original series as well as plenty of diving into the archives!
LOOK AT THAT PLAY-DOH DESIGN! No seriously! Artist Javier Rodríguez crafted this new original look for ‘Absolute Martian Manhunter‘ out of Play-Doh! The series will be written by Deniz Camp (‘The Ultimates‘, ‘20th Century Men‘) and is to be released in March in the 2nd wave of Absolute Universe titles alongside… the next two comics featured in this blog post!
The fastest (young) man alive! ‘Absolute Flash‘ series writer Jeff Lemire (‘Moon Knight‘, ‘Gideon Falls‘, ‘Descender‘ and many more!) and artist Nick Robles (‘Behold, Behemoth‘, ‘The Dreaming: Waking Hours‘) gave us our first peek inside the book, revealing the Absolute Universe versions of Captain Cold & Captain Boomerang! Plus, Wally has a mullet whether you like it or not.
The Green Lantern Corps are arriving on the scene in dramatic fashion (see: giant logo crashing onto earth) when ‘Absolute Green Lantern‘ hits the shelves. Writer Al Ewing (‘Immortal Hulk‘, ‘We Only Find Them When They’re Dead‘, ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy (2020)‘) and artist Jahnoy Lindsay showed a preview of their first issue and teased a cast of characters so-far featuring Jo Mullein, Hal Jordan & John Stewart!
A five issue mini-series is coming out of James Gunn’s Peacemaker tv show that stars John Cena. ‘Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature‘ starts in March and is set to bridge the gap between Season 1 & 2! The creatives behind this book are Tim Seeley, Mitch Gerads, Rex Ogle & Matteo Lolli, of course with James Gunn listed as a story consultant as this will give fans of the show a taste of what’s to come!
Other Notable Comic News
Firstly, IDW have changed their logo and there are some seriously mixed feelings on the internet! But it does make it so they can put the word ‘DARK‘ in the middle, so that might be why they did it. They will be continuing on with books like ‘Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees‘ & ‘30 Days Of Night‘, while also starting comics for hit horror franchises from film/tv like ‘The Twilight Zone‘, ‘A Quiet Place‘ & ‘Event Horizon‘! Personally, I would love to see a near wordless ‘A Quiet Place‘ series where the art does the talking!
That’s it for now! As always thank you so much if you are reading this and keeping up-to-date on all the upcoming releases via Our Blog and Our Weekly Pre-Order Form. Y’all are the best!
