This book became a unanimous favourite amongst the team here at Greenlight Comics, from Brayden following Sas Milledge on Instagram the second they saw Mamo in Previews, to Sarah and Dan both reading it the second it arrived in store. We all loved it. It being the debut solo graphic novel from Milledge was exciting too since we had previously seen their work in DC’s Dick Grayson graphic novel ‘The Lost Carnival’. Bonus points: they are based in Melbourne, Australia, currently living on Naarm land!

Of course it is easy to judge a book by its cover, but in this case that is more than okay! Not only do you get to see the gorgeous and stylish designs of our main characters Jo & Orla, you also get drawn in to their connection with nature since this book is all about hedge witches and boundaries.

The dynamic between Jo & Orla is really well done, by the end of the book I was just cheering with all of my full little heart (no spoilers but it’s cute as hell). The manner in which Milledge gradually expands upon the concepts and rules of hedge magic within their world is excellently paced and gives just enough detail to make it feel like you aren’t being overexplained to – your intelligence is respected in their writing (an aspect that is a major win whenever Sarah is reading your book). In fact, the magical elements of this story are presented so well that for the following week after he read this, Dan was absolutely obsessed with witches and hedge magic!

I can’t recommend this book highly enough. Not only is it beautiful across every inch of the page, but it holds a really touching tale of the connections we create and hold with our family, our friends and the land the surrounds us.

A must have for the collection and the perfect gift for the nature-lovers (and love-lovers!) in your life.
