How about a 3-in-1 review for you! Marvel have been releasing some seriously great all-ages and younger reader books as of late so I want to highlight and recommend a series that is a must do for families! ‘Marvel: Double Trouble‘ is a super easy to pick up series, with each book being it’s own self contained adventure with the characters featured in the title on the cover! Whether that be a team up between the Spidey’s or Thor & Loki, this title has great potential for plenty more books in the future (personally I’m hoping for a Captain Marvel & Ms Marvel or a Hawkeye book!). The stand out of the series if by far Gurihiru’s amazing art and character designs, it really feels like an animated show bursting to life on the page. If you like their art, you gotta check out ‘It’s Jeff‘ too!

If you want my thoughts on each of the three, keep on reading for a breakdown of what makes these such great reads.

Starting off with the first release in the series ‘Spider-Man & Venom‘, it’s delightful, super easy and lighthearted, modern and funny. At times it even feels like if Marvel had to make a Disney Channel sitcom show like Wizards of Waverley Place. The situation in this one? They’re roommates! But Venom isn’t paying rent and is super messy, and uh-oh… now Venom is body swapping with Spidey to enter a ninja warrior tv show?! Now they’ve double body swapped and are stuck as a cat and a squirrel as their bodies scurry away! This one is a real hoot and I highly recommend.

The second book went a bit further out from New York City, giving us an adventure with ‘Thor & Loki‘. But not just the boys, the girls too! I didn’t find the writing as fun or interesting as the first one sadly. But being incredibly honest here, Gurihiru NEEDS to do a Loki series for the queer community because my god Lady Loki in this book is serving 💁🏻

And last but CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, ‘Peter Parker & Miles Morales: Spider-Man‘. Not even joking… this is a 5 out of 5 book. Absolutely hilarious. Great adventure. The characterisation and relationships between everyone are excellent. The art is perfect. The writing is quick and super witty. It really is everything you would want from an all-ages superhero book. The story alone is oozing with laugh out loud moments as a Super Villain Convention is happening in town, where Thanos is the keynote speaker! Honestly one of the most enjoyable reads I’ve had in a long time.

Hopefully we get to enjoy more of this series in the future but if you need other books enjoy in the meantime definitely check out Marvel’s other younger reader books, including some from Scholastic on the adventures of Peter Porker a.k.a Spider-Ham!
