Best Of Horror

The best sellers! The cream of the crop-circles! The frights of might! The bumps in the night! The shadows on the wall! The twigs against the window! The event commitments you’re second guessing! The public speaking you never signed up for! That dingey alley you don’t want to walk down (come on down to 18 Stephens Place)! The Junji Ito Collection

The wide range of Junji Ito’s work is sure to send chills down your spine and create a strong urge to chat with your sleep paralysis demon about the horrors you just read about. While not for the faint of heart, Junji Ito is the king of horror manga for a reason, serving up intense body horror alongside psychological enigma’s to the point where you may want to cleanse your pallette with a viewing of ‘Hereditary‘ or ‘The Conjuring‘. He’s even done work adapting ‘Frankenstein‘, giving his own take on the cosmic horror genre & depicting the true nightmares of owning cats.

The Department Of Truth

Volume 1 of ‘The Department of Truth’ by James Tynion IV & Martin Simmonds is excellent. Off the premise of a secret department investigating conspiracy theories and their place in our twisted reality, how could you not be interested in finding out what is going on? Need more convincing? Read Dan’s recommendation of it here!

Something Is Killing The Children

James Tynion IV (yes again) teams up with Werther Dell’Edera to deliver ‘Something Is Killing The Children’ Vol 1, the start of what has now become one of the best selling series from BOOM! BARRY WINDSOR-SMITH MONSTERS HC

The hint is in the name as to why this tops our monster section of this article. Created over a period of 35 years, Barry Windsor-Smith’s ‘Monsters’ is a tour de force of visual storytelling. Part family drama, part espionage thriller, part metaphysical journey, it is an intimate portrait of individuals struggling to reclaim their lives and an epic political odyssey across two generations of American history. Monsters is rendered in Windsor-Smith’s impeccable technique, the visual storytelling being the most sophisticated of the artist’s career. There are passages of heartbreaking tenderness, of excruciating pain, and devastating violence. It is surely one of the most intense graphic novels ever drawn.
